Brief history

Allen, once little more than stretches of prairie fields, grew quickly from a railroad water stop (thanks to its access to Cottonwood Creek) to a prosperous city by the early 20th century. Though a 1915 fire delayed the city’s progress, Allen formally incorporated in 1953 and has bounced back to become home to one of the top school districts in the state.
